Teaser: Flame Princess accessories

The big sewing action is happening tomorrow, but here's another little cosplay tidbit that I threw together this afternoon:

Flame Princess's fire!

Flame Princess is capable of creating a little puff of fire in her hand at will. This was kind of a "hey, why not?" project (not a necessity for the costume, and honestly not what I'd do over again if I had to complete redo the thing -- I'd make a bag (useful) rather than just another thing to carry around).

Still! This is what I made:

I started with the following impulse purchases at Michaels:

A copper glitter-covered flower from the Christmas displays

An orange / copper glitter-covered leafy thing from the floral department

A little battery-powered votive

... and a whole bunch of gold, glittery, and shimmery ribbons.

You can probably see where this is going.

The hardest and most frustrating part, honestly, was getting the damn flower over the flame of the votive. I had to cut it pretty dramatically to make it even remotely possible:

But once I got that all hot-glued on there, I just shoved ribbons in willy-nilly (that's an exaggeration; for someone attempting to replicate fire, I have a really unfortunate proclivity for symmetry).

Here's the finished result:

If I were doing it again, I'd add something reflective at the bottom to shoot more of the light up into the ribbons and things, but it's pretty great just as it is :)
